Covid Vaccine Update: After Pfizer, Moderna Closer To Release Vaccine Data | India Today

Coronavirus vaccine update: The two frontrunner coronavirus vaccines being developed by Pfizer Inc and Russia have shown positive results and are said to be effective by over 90% against Covid-19. Now, Moderna is also getting closer to releasing data on its late-stage trials of the coronavirus vaccine candidate. Meanwhile, in India, experts have said the Pfizer news may not be of much use in India as the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine needs storage at extreme cold temperatures (-70 degrees Celsius) and arranging such cold chains would be a huge logistical issue. Russia's Sputnik V vaccine, which is also organising clinical trials in India and other countries, is 92% effective at protecting people from coronavirus, showed the new interim trial results. Russia’s announcement came a day after Pfizer and BiotNTech made a similar announcement with its coronavirus vaccine candidate. Russia's results are only the second from a late-stage human trial, following on swiftly from data released on Monday by Pfizer Inc and BioNTech, which said their shot was also more than 90% effective. While experts said the Russian data was encouraging and reinforced the idea the pandemic could be halted by vaccines, they warned that the results were only based on a small number of trial volunteers who had contracted Covid-19. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which has been backing Sputnik V's development, said the Russian trial would continue for six months. #CovidVaccine #IndiaToday Subscribe to India Today for NEW VIDEOS EVERY DAY and make sure to enable Push Notifications so you'll never miss a new video.
